Mag. Mija Javornik Slovenia

Mija Javornik is a feminist, sociologist, and human rights defender. She is an expert and trainer for Global Thinkers. Since 2007, she has been developing and implementing programs focused on the political and economic empowerment of women, as well as post-conflict reconstruction and development in the Western Balkans. She designed a national implementation project for UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in Slovenia.

Mija is the creator of a mentoring program implemented across the Western Balkans, the MENA region, Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia. Within the Academy for the Development of Democracy (ADD), she coordinates the project Only Yes Means Yes, aimed at changing the legal definition of rape, and played a key role in introducing the concept of affirmative consent into Slovenian law.

She studied sociology at the University of Ljubljana and Hawaii Pacific University and received the Klinar Fund Award for her work. She holds a master’s degree in gender equality and a Master of Sociology. Mija currently works as a policy advisor at the Slovenian Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and volunteers as a program coordinator for the association European Network for Gender Equality.
