Scandalous Behavior of the Government of Serbia towards Jovana Marovic
The Regional Academy for Democratic Development calls on the relevant authorities in the Government of the Republic of Serbia to urgently take action to allow Jovana Marović, a citizen of Montenegro and former Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, to regain her freedom of movement and to promptly return her personal documents.
Such treatment towards Jovana Marović, who has been denied entry into Serbia on the grounds of “protecting the security of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens,” is unlawful, undemocratic, and constitutes a clear retaliation for her freely expressed political views regarding the role of Vučić’s regime in destabilizing the region and undermining democracy in Serbia. This is not the first time that the regime in Serbia has targeted individuals with differing political views in this manner, and the international community must respond urgently and firmly to such a position taken by the regime in Serbia.
