Podgorica Plenum: Quo vadis, Balkan?
Regional Academy for Democratic Development – ADD, Centre for Civic Education (CCE) and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Office in Belgrade are organizing the ‘PODGORICA PLENUM – QUO VADIS BALKANS?’ on 11 and 12 February 2022 (Friday and Saturday), in Podgorica, at the CUE Hotel.
The goal of the event is to empower progressive forces in the region by bringing them together and discussing the response modalities to the rising right-wing extremism in the region. Our intention is, through the open forum with relevant stakeholders, to encourage the action of the progressive structures in the region – politicians, civil activists, publicists, historians, journalists, important office-holders, all with the aim of strengthening democratization and Europeanization process.
The plenum will be opened on 11 February (Friday) with the panel on participation and influence of citizens and CSOs in fighting right-wing extremism and misogyny in public sphere by dr Max Brändle, director of Regional Office of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung for Serbia and Montenegro, Balša Božović, Executive Director, Academy for Academic Development (AAD), Daliborka Uljarević, Executive Director, Centre for Civic Education (CGO/CCE), Maja Raičević, Executive Director, Centre for Women Rights, Demush Shasha, Executive Director, European Policy Institute from Kosovo and Kalinka Gaber, Advisor to the Government of North Macedonia.
This will be followed by the session in which the following domestic and regional politicians will speak: Ranko Krivokapić, Honorary President of the Socialdemocratic Party (SDP) and former President of the Parliament (Montenegro), Duško Marković, MP of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and former Prime Minister (Montenegro), Vesna Pusić, Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Nataša Vučković, Executive director, Centre for Democracy Foundation (Serbia), Josip Juratović, Member of the German Bundestag, Saša Magazinović, Social Democratic Party (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
The first day closes with the panel which gives a view of the publicists, journalists and writers: Boris Pavelić, journalist (Croatia) Andrej Nikolaidis, writer (Montenegro), Velma Šarić, Journalist and President of the Post-Conflict Research Center, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vesna Mališić, journalist (Serbia), Dragan Bursać, journalist (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Vladimir Vojinović, writer (Montenegro).
The second day of the Podgorica Plenum (12 February) will be opened with the panel ‘Does history belong to the past’, which will feature historians Ivo Goldštajn (Croatia), Milivoj Bešlin (Serbia), Dubravka Stojanović (Serbia), Husnija Kamberović (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Adnan Prekić (Montenegro).
The plenum will be closed by the panel ‘What can socialdemocratic politicans and CSOs further do?’ which will be addressed by Ivan Vuković, Mayor of Podgorica and Deputy President of DPS (Montenegro), Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Sarajevo, Social Democratic Party from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Daniel Serwer, Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Stipe Mesić, Former President of Croatia 2000-2010.
The Conference will bring together 50 domestic and regional participants from political parties, NGOs, media, government institutions, historians, the diplomatic corps, academic and scientific associations, and civil society activists. We appreciate that each of them contributes or can contribute to the democratization and Europeanization of opportunities both in the region and in Montenegro.
