Statements by the President of the National Assembly of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, and the monstrous manipulation of parts of the speech by Munira Subašić, President of the Mothers of Srebrenica Association, delivered at the commemoration of the anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, are yet another proof that the regime in Belgrade, led by Aleksandar Vučić, continues the policies of the 1990s and thus remains a destabilizing factor in the Western Balkans.
Vučić, from his position of power, attacks a woman whose twenty-two closest family members were killed in the genocide and positions himself as the victim. This is unheard of and, to say the least, morbid, deserving of every contempt. Especially when we know that Vučić was part of the policy that represented the political backdrop to the genocide in Srebrenica, for which he has never been held accountable, and obviously has not regretted its devastating consequences for the entire region.
The Mothers of Srebrenica and their President, Munira Subašić, have the full support of the Regional Academy for Democracy Development from Novi Sad and the Center for Civic Education from Podgorica, as well as the entire civic-oriented public, who understand the essence of the delivered speech and their overall efforts.
The work of this Association was recognized and awarded by our organizations at the recently held Sarajevo Plenum “Quo vadis, Balkan?”, highlighting their role in society and their fight for reconciliation in the Western Balkans through confronting our shared past.
